How do you describe Leanne Ehnat? Pierce County native? Soccer mom? TPCJSA Volunteer? TPCJSA Secretary? WYS Volunteer? State Tournament Director? Field Marshall? Soccer ambassador? Good sport? All of the above?
After winning the 2004 Championship Cup at Lakewood Stadium, members of the U18G Parrots make Leanne one of their own.
Leanne took on all the jobs that no one wanted, did them with a smile... did them for "her" kids... for over twenty years.
When she passed away in the summer of 2005 at age 62, the soccer community felt a profound loss and looked for ways to honor Leanne. She was posthumously inducted into the WSYSA Hall of Fame. WSYSA honors her by giving away the "Leanne Ehnat Fair Play Award" for each age group at the state cups.
TPCJSA had already presented Leanne with an Outstanding Service Award. What else could we do for Leanne? We decided to host a U11 and U12 championship at the end of the season and call it "The Leanne Ehnat Championship". It did not seem like enough.
In 2006 we asked each of our clubs to commit to contributing $250 a year for five years so that we could recognize high school seniors within the TPCJSA and award Leanne Ehnat Scholarships in her memory. They all agreed.
In establishing a budget for 2010-2011 the TPCJSA board decided to continue our commitment to the Ehnat scholarship program by setting aside $2000 from association funds. Clubs were no longer asked to send in contributions (although any contribution would be graciously accepted).
Applications for the 2011 Leanne Ehnat Scholarships were due on April 1, 2011 and winners will be announced soon.
